Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park Opens
Tampa has many outstanding parks but none grander than the recently opened Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. The stunning 25-acre park along the west bank of the Hillsborough River just south of I-275 has something for everyone. Amenities include athletic courts and fields, picnic shelters, children’s play area and water park, event space, boat house and docks, and two dog parks. The festival lawn has a capacity of 16,000 and adjacent lawn space for smaller groups. Ample parking is also available.
At a cost of over $35 million it is the most expensive park the City has developed. First opened in 1977, the park has had a long history as a community gathering spot and recreational area. Park use declined in recent years and with the West River redevelopment moving forward the need for an upgrade of Julian B. Lane Park became evident. The park is expected to trigger greater investment in West Tampa and will serve as a focal point for the community. The park boasts beautiful views of Downtown Tampa and is sure to be a favorite spot for people of all ages.
