West Tampa's heritage is rooted in Tampa's famous cigar making past. Founded in 1895, West Tampa grew to be the fifth largest city in Florida by the early 1900's. This rich history and wealth of historic homes and commercial buildings creates a sense of place and tradition that is unique in the Tampa Bay area.

Today, West Tampa is poised for is most significant growth since its heyday. Lying between downtown Tampa and the Westshore business district, it is convenient to over 200,000 jobs, the largest retail centers in the region in Westshore and International Malls, Tampa International Airport, and Tampa's major sports and entertainment venues including the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Raymond James Stadium, and the Times Forum.

Major educational assets include the Universityof Tampa, the main campus of Hillsborough Community College and Blake Performing Arts Magnet High School while the growing medical campus of St. Joseph Hospital provides some of the finest health care in the state.
